No she won’t sleep tonight
For Rai has waited long
To hear Kanha’s flute.
The flute that hypnotised
Oh so many of them
Whom Rai envied so long.
The flute that so often
Undressed her worldly coy
As she ran to him in trance.
For long was it lost
From their own Madhuvan
As she waited in tears.
But a promise will be kept
When it weeps tonight
Far on that Yamuna bank.
And Rai will run again
Across the night untamed
To meet her Kanha at last.
